Dark + Spicy Cinderella Retelling. The why-choose (reverse harem) awesomeness explodes across the pages. With sword crossing, dark themes, and an HEA that is so well deserved!
“We won’t leave you alone. You are now ours. You are the first thing to ever truly belong to us, and we will never let you go.”

Rosa Lee has quickly become one of my go-to favorite why-choose authors and she shows why with Tarnished Embers. This book y’all. This book. The spice is crazy spicy, there were moments that made me, a seasoned pro at reading why-choose at this point, blush. It is seriously spicy and sooooo fast burn. From the moment Ember lays eyes on her new step brothers. . .it. is. fire. The chemistry and tension and sexual compatibility of these five characters, woah.
This is the Cinderella why-choose that I didn’t know I needed.
Ember gets the surprise of her life when she comes home and her father introduces her to her new step-mother, the odious Odette, what ends up changing the trajectory of her life for all the better in my opinion, is the four step-brothers that come with Odette. And woah nelly, these four guys are charming, intriguing, and oh-so-damaged with deep dark secrets and a total and complete obsession with Ember.
If you like your men in books to be completely utterly obsessed and enthralled with the FMC then look no further because y’all these guys are so utterly obsessed. I loved the progression of this relationship and the devotion and love they have for each other is everything. And the spice. Holy wow. The spice. But also the love and the tragedy and deep understanding they have for another is soooo good.
While Tarnished Embers is romantic, sexy and spicy AF, it is also super packed with dark themes. The guys have a past that is tangled up with the step mother from hell and it’s sad and heartbreaking to behold. Add in what happens to Ember and her own personal demons, and wow, yeah, heed triggers and take care of your mental health. Do I still recommend this one? Yes, totally and completely yes. Just be prepared for not only spicy romance that is so fast burn it’ll make your toes curl, but also serious themes that could be triggering.
All in all, Rosa Lee did it again. There are reasons why she has become an auto-read author for me and why I’ll never stop recommending her books and its because ultimately she knows how to write a really good why-choose romance with spicy spice, darkness and so much love.
I received an advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review.
