“Love is too healthy of a word for what we have, darling. Love is for people who aren’t like us.”

So. yeah. That was a slow-ish burn darkness that consumed me. What isn’t there to love about a serial killer therapist obsessed with his patient? This was just good, soooo good. After book two in the Pleasure & Prey series, I was super curious to know more about the killer with claws and wowza, he’s something else, so tasty yum.

Quinn, a former foster kid that has spent time under the care of her therapist Gabriel makes a catastrophic mistake (or is it?) that leads her to asking Gabriel for help. When Gabriel says he’ll take care of it, she doesn’t understand the bloody carnage that is coming and when she discovers the blood and the bodies and the man behind the mayhem who is none other than Gabriel – she runs.

Years later with a college degree and the urge to continue to run and duck her head to flee from Gabriel, she learns just how deeply the man is obsessed and that he will never let her go. Stalking table for one. What ensues is a job opportunity in the middle of nowhere and a certain therapist who follows right behind her.

There is a subplot of murder and mystery, foster kids and the perils and trials of the system and Quinn’s new job as a social worker but mostly this is just some dark twisted slow burn awesomeness as the push and pull and attraction and obsession between a former therapist and his unhinged patient.

I love AJ Merlin stories, they easily suck me in and leave me reading until the last page.
