My favorites January, book edition.

January marked the beginning of a new year and with it, it brought horrors that never cease aka the world. So, into books I went and I make no appologies for my dissacociation game. I read some amazing books – gods + their blood sworn sacrifices. . .re-read some goodies and had strong opinions about others, while also dnf-ing some that just didn’t work for me.

What did you read this month? What was your favorite? What was your fail? x’s + o’s

My five star obsessions and a six star that is one of my favorite books – ever, especially for this hellscape we call twenty-twenty-six. boo.

The absolute love I have for this debut in a new fantasty series. . .every once in awhile I find a perfect gem and The Road of Bones is perfection. God-tier-six-star perfection. From the writing, to the pacing, the tendrils of a relationship that is going to be everything, the magic, the characters. . .perfect.

“It is a man’s world in which we live, Skraeda. Let them think us lambs, when truly, we are wolves.”
― Demi Winters, The Road of Bones

Kingdom of Claw ratchets up the awesomeness. I loved this outing and it cemented for me that this is going to be on my god-tier keeper shelf. It is that good. The writing, the pacing, the relationships, the characters, the world building. This series is the stuff of dreams. So. So. So. Amazing.

One of my favorite books that I have ever, ever, ever read. The feral fearlessness with which Elizabeth May writes is sublime perfection. This is love dripping crimson on the end of a blade and I will never get enough, I am desperate for the next book. . .desperate.

SIX Stars forevermore

“Nemesis. That nickname shouldn’t spread heat across my skin, but it does. “― Elizabeth May, The Wolf and the Crown of Blood

My four star reads ranged from witches in a victorian era setting where werewolves also happen to be very real, an angsty omegaverse that made my heart race and my palms sweat, a sweet romance between a firefighter figuring out who he is and the diner cook that he falls in love with, a biker with blood on his hands while also holding his dove safely.

This was my first read of 2026 and an impulse buy from the grocery store because thank you small town in Alaska with limited shopping options for romance books. I meant to read a chapter, I didn’t stop until the last page. Victorian era with witches and wolves and chaos. The twists were twisting and I could not predict what was coming next, kept me my on reading toes.

The angst that drips through every. single. page. My, oh, my. I was so anxious. I knew that this was rejected mate but I was not prepared for how much tension it would evoke within my bones. Like, what? Seriously. The. Angst. After that crazy cliffhanger, I had to take a break but I’ll definitely be reading book two, because wow, Primal was really good.

“You can keep running sweet one, but I’ll keep chasing. One day, you’ll believe that I’m not walking away from you. Not again.”
― Kayleigh King, Primal

I just had a good time with this story, it begins a little fast with the spice, which made me pause a bit because I wasn’t really in the mood for fastburn in that moment, but I’m glad I stuck with it as it turned into the sweetest story. The heart of Up All Night is the characters and the romance at its core, it’s prety lovely actually.

Was this as good as its predecessor, Wolf.e? No and yes. . .maybe. It’s different. The romance, the obsessive fast freefall of Sean + Layla’s meeting and relationship IS the plot. The secondary plot was lacking in my opinion BUT I still enjoyed myself. Sean is just, damn, he’s yum. And Layla is awesome, truly. The vibes these two put out and the chemistry that tangles them together is well done. Imma be reading book three for sure.
